Pastured Pigs - Our Hampshire-Berkshire mixed breed pigs are raised outdoors on pasture. Pigs are good browsers and consume a considerable amount of grass and turn the soil for trace minerals. They have made great wallows in the wet spots of their pasture. The animals live low stress lives and have the freedom to exercise the full range of their normal behaviors including rooting, scratching, preening, wallowing, and taking sunbaths. They can often be found snoozing in their lean to shed in summer and in the protection of the barn in winter. The pigs are fed locally raised whole corn and soybeans or a locally raised and freshly ground mix of corn and soybean mash with trace minerals added. In the growing season, they also eat fresh greens from the pasture and the weeds gleaned from our flower and vegetable gardens.
